What the pandemic has taught us about science
The COVID-19 virus took us by surprise. It shouldn’t have. After all, SARS, MERS and Ebola were all recent warnings that we were playing with fire. We knew, too, that our demands on the natural world were hastening the arrival of global crises. And yet even those far-sighted individuals who had long been warning of pandemics underestimated the scale and speed of the COVID-19 outbreak.
